Out of the mouths of (brown) babes

Oh, dear. DPF is quoting Duncan Garner’s interview with a truckee from Wainui.

DPF (selectively) quotes a bit of the piece:

Wainui Truck Driver: Well bro, everytime I’ve lifted a hand at somebody and whacked them, I’ve been arrested and handcuffed and taken in. Don’t know why he hasn’t been done.
Duncan Garner: Would you like to see him sacked from Cabinet, resign from Parliament?
Wainui Truck Driver: I’d like to see him arrested just like us old nigger boys

Oh how we all laughed!

Does anyway else get, as Robyn might say it, the “serious hinks” about this post? Talk about Wat’s classic dog whistle politics.

What’s DPF saying?  That even dumb maaari boys take a dim view of Mallard’s actions? You note DPF’s chosen quote colourfully epitomises the received view of a Bro’.  God Almighty, it’s crying out for a Billy T giggle at the end of it.  Just to reinforce this is a comedic interlude in the otherwise serious business of debating whether Mallard should be hung or simply shot for getting physical with Tau and to show how even the lowest of the low “get it”.  Fuck me.

This reminds me of that show, “Kids say the darndest things” - you know where Cosby lines up an array of very young kids and primes them with questions to get the kids to spout all manner of  hilarious shit.  Because, you know, kids have nothing important to say - they’re just there for entertainment, right?
DPF digs himself and even deeper hole by using a subtle variant on the old “some of my best friends” routine by suggesting that “friends of his in Wainui” tell him this dude is a classic case of the redeeming value of capitalism.  Sam Dixon and rogernome quickly point out that, if there is a story to be learned here, it’s the value of having a safety net - a net that’s probably gone by lunchtime under any National led government (yeah, we’re looking at you, Collins).

What’s up with this: “Now I thought it would just be supportive locals saying hey nothing wrong with a bit of biffo.”??? (God! Use commas!!) I read from all this that he was SURPRISED ‘That even dumb maaari boys take a dim view of Mallard’s actions.’ Or maybe he’s just doing a bait and switch - ‘I know all you national dudes like me think dumb maaari boys are all going at it, but really, they’re on our side…’??

Wow, Roger’s a bit of a star, isn’t he? He just keeps going and going. Tane too. Props. (Incidentally, I HAVE been called a feminazi on kiwiblog. Plus, Labour is not really a socialist party.)

Also, I noticed that when sombody called DPF a liar, he got really pissed off. At least it seemed that way.
    >>[DPF: You don’t get to call me a liar on my own blog. Take this as a formal warning. My friend told me about his background in front of around six other people]<<<
I’ve never read him getting actually angry before. Usually he’s mister jokes.

A liar, eh? THAT’S his button.

  2. nih Says:

Well, you know what that means. You found what he really thinks about himself.

  3. robynekenealy Says:

You mean, the lady doth protest too much?

  4. robinsod Says:

I’ve seen him angry plenty and like I’ve said I’m back over there as of tomorrow…

Duncan Garner… wasn’t he the guy that thought George Bush was actually complimenting him on his suit?

[Zoster says: A friend of mine who works in television said that a lot of the journos in the Parliamentary Press Gallery referred to him as Dumbc*nt Garner (it was particularly funny because, said fast, you could almost get away with it to his face)...but my friend was also known to Gild the Lily for a laugh. Still, I thought it funny when I heard it and now whenever I see him around or on television I just can't help but think of that name]

Has anyone else noticed that no journo appears to be asking, and Key hasn’t offered, about any action that the National leadership is taking in broaching the issue of appropriate behaviour with their own MP? By most accounts it appears Tau grabbed Trev’s tie first (which doesn’t make Trev hitting him ok). I would have thought at the least a chat between Leader and Henare was in order?

  7. zoster Says:

Exactly, Margaret. A point I was making to someone this morning. Someone told me about this accountant taking a private prosecution and I said, both Mallard and Tau? No was the answer. Hang, on…Tau allegedly assaulted Mallard - so what’s good for the goose???

  8. robinsod Says:

To be fair to the media Geoff Robinson (great last name by the way) gave Rodney a bit of a going over about Tau’s get out of jail free card the other morning.

  9. the sprout Says:

yes but he’s the only one i’ve heard mention it

  10. insolentprick Says:

    So what’s your whakapapa, Icky?

  11. rogernome Says:

Yeah - DPF’s endless attempts at gaining “street cred” through name dropping youngsters, queers and ‘other’ ethnicities never gets old.

Ideally, when in his 50s he’ll go out with a young bisexual Maori girl - and if he ever runs for office you can bet she’ll be the centerpiece of his campaign. Can ya see it now? “My wife’s from Ngati Whatua” :-)

  12. rogernome Says:

oh, and thanks for the props robyn - sometimes I think we waste our time over at farrars though. Talking about socially progressive politics with those peeps can be like trying to teach evolutionary theory to fundy Christians at times.

oh - and i’ve been called a “pansy feminazi lickspittle” over there (all be it by D4J) - definitely a good sign I reckon :-)

Prick: Groan! You just don’t get it, do you?
