Kiwiblog Right vs the Real World

If further proof were needed that the Kiwiblog Right isn’t exactly a balanced representation of the community at large, check out the results of Davey’s latest poll compared to polls from the real world in square brackets:

Which party are you most likely to vote for?

• National (50%, 72 Votes)  [around 50%]
• ACT (20%, 28 Votes)  [around 2%]
• Kiwi Party (10%, 15 Votes)  [0.4% in first poll]
• Labour (7%, 10 Votes)  [35-39%]
• Green (7%, 10 Votes)  [4-8%]
• Libertarianz (2%, 3 Votes)  [usually does not feature]
• Maori Party (1%, 2 Votes)  [1-3%]
• Other (1%, 2 Votes)  [1%]
• Progressive (1%, 1 Votes)  [0.5%]
• United (0%, 0 Votes)  [0.5%]
• NZ First (0%, 0 Votes)  [1-3%]
Total Voters: 143

Incidentally, doesn’t Davey claim to get 7000 visitors a day? And yet his polls have had 1579 votes over 84 days – 19 a day. And one of those votes is this:

How Is My Site?

• Excellent (100%, 1 Votes)
• Good (0%, 0 Votes)
• Bad (0%, 0 Votes)
• Can Be Improved (0%, 0 Votes)
• No Comments (0%, 0 Votes)
Total Voters: 1

    quite funny.
    1 in 5 an angry young ACT man, 1 in 10 a Kiwi Party supporter.
    that really does explain an awful lot.

  2. stephen23 Says:

    Some people are more motivated to ‘vote’ in semi-pointless website polls than others I guess…Quite possible that many visitors just don’t vote.

  3. mardypants Says:

    The whole traffic measure stuff is hard to get a handle on - I don’t doubt for a minute that the likes of Slater overstate their stats but I’m less suspicious of Farrar. Interesting spread of parties; pity there was no category “zealots”

    HILARIOUS

  5. Wat Tyler Says:

    yeah, obviously a test poll he created and voted on himself - what’s classic is that even in what is intended to be a private test he can’t help but bolster his ego. Surely most people would have done ‘what’s your favourite colour?’ or something like that for a test. Not our davey though.

  6. compt78 Says:

    But now the Kiwi Party are coming up on the inside track, challenging ACT for the silver medal! What a thriller!

    Between them these two parties currently have 35% of so-called Kiwiblog, which is about 20 times their combined support among Kiwis. Says it all, really.

    Oh, and if you think the religious right and Roger’s right have anything in common, check this out:

    Ouch. That makes lefty in-fighting look like a group hug …

  7. mattb02 Says:

    I honestly didn’t even realize polls were being run on his site.

    The two parties seriously at odds with the population are ACT and Labour. Run the same poll here and you’d find the opposite. Name a political blog that does pull a representative cross section of New Zealand.

    Other than being a personal attack on Farrar, I’m not sure what this post is supposed to prove.

  8. Ari Says:

    Mattb- I imagine it’s possible to pull a representative cross section in some respects, but not of political parties. It’s certainly a very weird criticism of his site that he brings in a lot of National, Act, and “kiwi party” supporters- every blog covering politics in detail will have distorted support for certain parties, as every political blog is somewhat partisan.

  9. jaymam Says:

    The omly thing that is odd about the DPF “poll” is that ACT and Kiwi Party are over-represented, and Labour under-represented. National supporters are exactly in the numbers to be expected.

  10. bigbruv Says:

    Seen the latest productivity data chaps?, not looking good for dear leader, what with that and the hammering you have been taking over the nett wage difference between Aussie and here it is no wonder you have not touched either subject.

  11. robinsod Says:

    Firstly - Bruv you obviously don’t understand how productivity works so here’s a quick lesson:

    I use $100,000 of inputs (generally a mix of labour and capital) to produce $150,000 in output. If I reduce my inputs (by sacking staff or cutting their wages, for example) and end up producing $200 worth of output for $100 of input my productivity increases. That’s because it is a ratio and need to be view alongside overall growth to have any meaning. Now fuck off and come back when you are a little more literate.

    Now, on the matter of the delusional right I would say you need no better example than steady eddy’s latest sick offering on Kate Sutton:

    http://www.whaleoil.co.nz/?q=content/know-your-weasel-slippery-kate-sexual-deviant

    As I understand it there is talk of getting the police involved…

  12. Tane Says:

    Looks like someone’s hijacked Davey’s poll:

    Which party are you most likely to vote for?

    * Green (42%, 669 Votes)
    * Labour (40%, 636 Votes)
    * National (8%, 122 Votes)
    * ACT (4%, 65 Votes)
    * Kiwi Party (3%, 53 Votes)
    * Maori Party (1%, 16 Votes)
    * United (1%, 14 Votes)
    * Libertarianz (0%, 4 Votes)
    * Other (0%, 3 Votes)
    * Progressive (0%, 2 Votes)
    * NZ First (0%, 2 Votes)

    Total Voters: 1,586

    PS. Sod, had a look at Whales site - disgusting.

  13. akuleate Says:

    “…there is talk of getting the police involved…”

    I should hope so - always staggers me that these flithy cretins can get away with the most obscene slander imaginable of our PM (not to mention splicing her head onto porn) in a forum available to the world……and then have the nerve to cry corruption, family values etc ad nauseam. High time some of the older tories were aware of what these creeps are like.

  14. imcheezy Says:

    Damn, it’s not there anymore. I thought these big tough righties were supposed to be heroes of straight-talking free speech - speak the truth and bugger the consequences and all that…???

  15. ickystinky Says:

    I googled it. It’s cached. Basically, it’s meant to show that Kate as a student president a few year’s ago was a trenchant critic of the current government - comparing it with National in the 90s. I would have thought that the fact Labour then recruited her reflected well on both Labour and Kate. It shows Labour to be tolerant of those who criticise and that it recognised she was prepared to represent her constituency (angry students). It also reflects well on Kate. IF she was a dyed in the wool Labourite - she suspended that to advocate as a student leader.

  16. robinsod Says:

    Nah Icky, it was a different post which was far far nastier than that.

  17. ickystinky Says:

    Oh. Sorry, then. Here was me wondering why you and Tane were upset. I thought the whole Kate was an effective student leader was not too bad. Now I understand. Sorry to confuse the message.

  18. mattb02 Says:

    Imcheezy: free speech is one thing, but there are also laws against libel and that post may have crossed the line. It does appear malicious and WhaleOil could have found himself on the wrong end of a law suit. Incentives matter.

    Icky: that’s a pretty generous take on the situation. If she remains that strident when in Labour then you’ll have a point, but she won’t. If it was anyone in National you’d be accusing them of flip flopping.

  19. jaymam Says:

    I see that DPF has listed the Google search items that take people to his site.

    523 people reached Kiwiblog by searching for ‘kiwi blog’.
    686 people reached Kiwiblog by searching for ‘animal sex’ or a variant!
    86 people reached Kiwiblog by searching for ‘what is the aprox. average height of a full grown man in the us?’

    i.e. some very strange people go to Kiwiblog!
