More Redbaiter Humour

February 4, 2008

Redbaiter really is a total ass.  This pathetic loser is just a stupid little frightened git - problem is, he doesn’t realise it.  I know it may be hard for some, but for a great laugh I urge you to pop over and read the little man’s comments on the Sarah Silverman thread.  ’Baiter shows himself to be a complete and total doofus in his Chicken Little about societal standards.  The nub of his argument is that all he knows or cares to know about Silverman’s video (because he didn’t watch it) is that she uses “fuck” in public.  This is, apparently, the nadir of modern society.  So, ‘Baiter goes on to fucking call every fuck a fucking fuck fuck fuck fuck…you get the irony!  Mind you…no one actually says “fuck” on the Silverman video.  It’s been “beeped”. Turns out the only one with the potty mouth is ‘Baiter.  What a hypocrite. What an ass. Better than that…what a FUCK!

Blissfully ignorant about the blitz

December 16, 2007

It’s getting even weirder over at Davey’s place.

As Zos pointed out earlier, DPF had an odd reaction to a commenter (mildly) suggesting drinking booze before driving (although remaining within the limit) might sit uncomfortably with the overall anti-drink driving message. DPF took it all very seriously.

Amazingly, so did his banana-munching readers. In fact, Redbaiter was so outraged he actually tried to make a substantive point! I know! Shocking. But then, when you’ve re-read the comment, you realise why Red makes so few  substantive points and intead prefers ad hominen and plain rant. But for you edification, here’s what Red said about drink driving ‘blitzes’:

No no no no no no no no. No stopping citizens for suspicionless checks. Mr. Farrar, you have put so much energy into a campaign to stop the EFB. Don’t you see where it all starts? It starts with the government diminishing and attacking basic rights, and in this case its the rights of law abiding citizens to go about their business without being stopped at checkpoints.

You’re right of course to be concerned about drunk drivers, but this is not the way to deal with it. A gummint that abides by basic freedoms would not be constructing such anti-freedom legislation as the EFB. By allowing these checkpoints, you gave them the inch, and therefore you cannot complain when they then take the expected mile.

Deal harshly with drunk driving if you must, but you cannot complain about the EFB on one hand, and then call for more suspicionless checks on law abiding citizens on the other. You must be consisitent in your limiting of government power and respecting citizens rights, and that consistency starts at the most basic levels.

“Suspicionless checks”??? Obviously Red doesn’t understand that driving is a dangerous activity that, like welding, operating cranes or firing weapons, requires a demonstration of competence in order to be licensed.

The government routinely uses proactive checks on these and all manner of other licensed activities to ensure on-going compliance and safety. Clearly prosecuting after something goes horribly wrong is not only costly and inefficient - it also means someone has to suffer first (the victim).

Personally, I am quite comfortable with licensees being periodically checked and for those who demonstrate they no longer can be trusted with that license have some sort of sanction taken against them. I mean, I would hate to have cranes falling about our cities or restaurants churning out toxic food before we even bother to check them or to prosecute.

Detecting and prosecuting offending ex ante is a bloody effective way of keeping us (the general public) safe. To equate this kind of licence checking with unwarranted searches or, even more bizarrely, the Electoral Finance Bill, really shows Redbaiter’s limited thinking.

1000 registered users

November 3, 2007

According to DPF, Kiwiblog registered its 1000th user today. That’s nice for Kiwiblog and very nice for National.

We don’t begrudge Kiwiblog its traffic. And, in some respects, it’s good there’s somewhere in the New Zealand environment that caters for political dialogue. But I am not sure all 1000 registered users are entirely clear about DPF’s current relationship with the National Party.

Like many in the mainstream media, DPF’s abvuncular manner disarms many into believing he’s just this down-to-earth guy who throws up posts as they occur to him without any reference to the strategic interests of the National Party. But if you’re aware of the bias, you notice it straight away. It’s not just what he says - but what he fails to say that’s significant.

Davey’s also proud of the huge number of comments he receives. Legitimately - he’s miles ahead of any rival New Zealand blogs. But you have to challenge the quality of his comment threads. DPF allows trolls like D4J and Redbaiter to voice offensive prejudice generally with impunity - knowing their outrages are lightning rods that will attract a backlash of responses. It’s an effective means of driving traffic - but it’s not really quality, is it?

What’s more, DPF and some of his leading supporters delight in describing the likes of rogernome, sam dixon, tane and sonic as being trolls. Yet, these contributors tend only to make intelligent comments (or the infrequent jibe back when provoked) but they’re trolls because their commentary is not in line with the National Party/conservative line. And, as Robyn intelligently deconstructed in her essay, Kiwiblog is not really a safe place for intellectual exchange.

Redbaiter’s spawn (nsfw)

October 29, 2007

The YoungNats website was pulled a while back for containing images and content that was considered offensive and damaging - the kind of stuff you can find most days over at whaleoil’s site. No loss really, these same people hang around DPF’s site most days anyway and it’s not like they’ve got much to say in their own right - so little in fact that since January their blog has been hacked by various pornographers and spammers (if you must, the link is here but we suggest you venture no further).

I suspect this was the last official entry and was a reference to either John Key’s premature peak in the polls or Davey’s preference for vanity posting.

Redbaiter lives…moderators dead

October 28, 2007

The avenging angel of bigotted stupidity is back from some sort of hiatus.  Redbaiter’s been giving ol’ rogernome a going over.

Ironically, Red is, once again, trying to claim some sort of high moral ground.  Sorry, even as a write that I find it amusing.  What an amazing troll he is.  Of course, so far, he’s been going about his nasty little busy completely unmolested by the invisible moderators.  Interestingly,  the day DPF is out of town so it seems are his moderators….hmmmmmmmm….nih may have something.

Star-crossed lovers

October 16, 2007

People have noticed Red’s recent absence from DPF’s Great Hall of Ignorance. Perhaps the threat of moderation might have got to him - or, maybe, he just can’t be arsed tonight. Lord knows - judging from tonight’s lazy-arse contributions from Farrar, it looks like he couldn’t be much arsed either. Still, I’d be waiting a few days before sending out the search parties. Red loves the attention - he’ll be back (or find another outlet for his wilful stupidity).

Still, Red’s no-show is already causing heart-felt pain. Red’s ideological fuck-buddy, D4J, is already pining. Check out his angst-ridden post from earlier this evening:

“Where is my mate redbaiter ? If he doesn’t come back then I’m off .”

There’s genuine pathos in that post and, not wishing to sound heartless, but as the kids might say: LMFAO!

Moderation is killing Red…

October 12, 2007

Hee, hee.  Was just over at Kiwiblog and the moderation is killing Redbaiter. He can’t quite get his head around the fact that DPF and his band of censors are clamping down on personal abuse.

It’s classic.  Despite being censored, Red keeps mutely mouthing obscenities Andrew W’s way - even though the moderators are pruning his comments as they come out. It will be interesting to see whether Pavlov is right and Red learns  a new behaviour or whether he dumbly continues to bash away blind to the censorship.

Apropros nothing in particular: I wonder if DPF’s off doing his “free speech” thing (smiles broadly).

Kiwiblog: Digital Talkback

October 9, 2007

A question:  What differentiates Kiwiblog from talkback radio?

I am not sure there is a difference - and I think DPF might actually want it that way.

All this talk about moderation is a red herring.  DPF gets a lot of foot traffic from some of the more bizarre outliers of political thought in New Zealand.  As crazy as the people are, they’re great for DPF’s traffic stats.  Let’s face it, Redbaiter and D4J just by themselves generate an inordinate amount of responses.

DPF, like talkback, floats broad and relatively colourless articles aimed at provoking debate down avenues he and his party masters want to push debate.  He can then rely on the assorted nuts to generate the noise he needs for traffic and attention.

Is Redbaiter for real?

October 5, 2007

OK, the debate over at Kiwiblog is turning all post-modern. However, before someone starts quoting Foucoult, perhaps a more grounding post might settle jangled nerves.

This post poses the question, “Is Redbaiter for real?” Let’s face it, virtually everyone who has encountered Redbaiter, regardless of political persuasion has asked themselves this question. I mean, it’s so hard to tell.

Theories abound about Redbaiter. Ranging from some form of mental illness through to comedic irony. The thing is, he’s so damned consistent - so damned strange - it’s just to hard to tell what his motivation might be.

Redbaiter’s been a prominent running sore/running gag (depending on your perspective) on the Web and, prior to that, on UseNet. His provocative postings and battles with particular writers in alt.politics.nz were legendary. Older hands may remember Redbaiter’s running battles with the likes of Jason M, Steve Withers and Janice. Over the years, Redbaiter has not relented or mellowed. Even his acerbic style hasn’t changed much.

Newbies to fora where Redbaiter lurks are often drawn into conflict with him because they find his style obnxious and over-the-top and are outraged enough to try and argue with him. He loves the attention. He usually deals with these newbies with a disarming lack of coherent argument and plenty of abuse leaving the hapless combatant dazed and confused. Slowly, the newbies come to realise like the rest of us, that it is pointless engaging Redbaiter because there is no engaging with Redbaiter.

Over time, you maybe come to accept Redbaiter as some sort of force of nature. An unchangeable irritant like the chaffing of cheap polyester. Maybe you get used to him. I don’t know.

Finally, when you’ve been around for a longer time and have been a mute witness to Redbaiter’s frothing - you start to wonder whether there is more to his posting than simple-minded non sequitors and  ad hominen. Slowly you start to discern that, within the rhetoric and abuse, there might be a glimmer of intelligent argument. It’s often hard to tell - because it’s fleeting and doesn’t show itself all the time - but if you’ve been around for a while  you may know what I mean.

Who knows, it could be illusory. It could be that within the din of his white noise you’re starting to imagine patterns. It might be some sort of pareidolia. I just don’t know.

Our intriguing thought for the week: Is Redbaiter for real?

Privatisation Debate on Kiwiblog

October 3, 2007

DPF contributed a reasonably cogent argument why he believes National should remain open to privatising certain state activities and assets.

Unfortunately, the thread that followed was anything but cogent. It was an appalling mess of personal abuse and incoherent babble. A few posters desperately tried to keep things apropos but Redbaiter and his demented accolyte, D4J (fresh back from his latest stint in purgatory for abusing David’s hospitality) heaped ad hominen and inane rant into the proceedings.

David tried to set a reasonable tone when he said:

What I want is a Government which will be open minded about where there is a role for the private sector, and make decisions based on empirical evidence and analysis.

This was classic DPF. True to his soft-liberal underbelly, DPF is not totally ideologically-driven. But he needs to float this particular argument because National’s privatisation by stealth is hemorrhaging votes.

The problem David and National have is this kind of moderate ‘we want to be open - but we’re not entirely wedded to the idea‘ perspective may have been valid in the eighties when the government was pretty much indiscriminately selling-off Crown assets and enterprises - but I am not sure it has much traction now.

The debate has subsided because there’s not a lot to talk about. All of the obvious things that could have been privatised were privatised and what remains really are core functions. There might be some room around the margins for discussion and there remains a strong opportunity for public-private partnering as a way to delivery high-performance outcomes. But as for mainstream privatisation…forget about it.

National wants to soften the privatisation disquiet. Accordingly, it’s getting all its mouthpieces (like DPF) out and about to make soothing noises.

But this is where Kiwiblog fails as National propaganda: Kiwiblog is frequented by some pretty brainless ideologues for whom nothing short of selling everything bar army and police is a good idea. The net result is that National and DPF’s ambition to set out some reasonable and soothing noises about privatisation (it will be evidence based not ideological!) is drowned out by the idiots. Visit Kiwiblog and you come away with the distinct impression that National will sell you goddamned teeth if they were reasonably accessible.
